DESCRIPTION OF ITINERARY:
DAY 01: PUNO – COPACABANA – PARITI & KALAUTA ISLAND – COPACABANA: Early morning between 6:00 – 6:30am a guide and driver will pick you up from the hotel in Puno (Peru), to take you to Bolivia, making stop on the way at Kasani (Migrations office of Bolivia & Peru) in order to board our land transportation to your next destination and that will assist you with boarding and luggage. Copacabana is located 143 km away from Puno (Peru), 03:00 hour’s drive, with a population of 3000 inhabitants. In Copacabana there is a church built between 1601 and 1619. Then land transportation to Huatajata community, enjoying an impressive view of Royal mountain range. Upon arrival visit to KONTIKI local museum and it’s owner Paulino Esteban, builder of transoceanic rafts, partner of Thor Heyerdahl, who decided to build a big raft boat (reed boat) to cross the atlantic. Lunch at restaurant. Then a boat ride of 01 hours to Pariti Island, which is located in the minor lake (Wiñaymarka lake). Arrival to Pariti Island, then we visit the local Archaeological Museum, where ceramics discovered in the years (2003 – 2006) are exhibited as vessels with the heads of animals such as pumas and ducks belonging to the Tiwanaku and Chiripa culture (600 B:C – 0) & Tiwakanu culture (600 to 1150 B.C). The vessel-ceramic called the lord of ducks is the most impressive. Then we continue with our trip to Kalauta Island (ex-stone city). Arrival to Kalauta Island, then walking to visit the chullpas of Quehuaya (funeral tombs) that belong to Tiwanaku & Aymara cultures (Umasuyos), with buildings of 2 and 3 floors. Kalauta Island stands out for being a ceremonial center of the Tiwanaku culture, where Andean peoples came to deliver offerings to the gods. There are also artificial floating islands around the place. Finally a return trip by boat to Huatajata. Land transport from Huatajata to Copacabana. Overnight in Copacabana.
DAY 02: COPACABANA – SUN ISLAND + MOON ISLAND – COPACABANA – PUNO: Early morning at 8:00am depart by private motor boat to Moon Island, also called Koati, located near the island of the sun. It is a small, rugged island, has an area of 105.1 hectares. Its topography is steep besides to be as a plateau. On the island there is a temple called Iñakuyu or Palace of the Virgins of the sun, inhabited by Virgins women, the site was an acllawasi (house of the women chosen) the women learned various trades, particularly the weaving. It is also said that they could be used for sacrifice, and only to the Inca emperor was allowed the entrance to the Island. Currently the Island is populated by few families of indigenous of origin Quechua and Aimara, who are cattlemen and farmers. Then visit Sun Island, also called Titicaca Island is located in Lake Titicaca Bolivian side, which has a length of 9.6 km by 4.6 km wide and covers an area of 14.3 km ². Its first name was Titicaca Island which means Andean cat stone or puma stone. It has a rugged terrain with many terraces that ancient people have used for cultivation. The island was the Inca sanctuary with a temple of virgins dedicated to God Inti (the Sun), inhabited by indigenous Quechuas and Aimaras, who are cattlemen and farmers. The Sun Island is surrounded by archaeological sites from Tiwanaku era such as the temple of the sun, steps, agriculture terraces and paths. It also shows the Chinkana or underground labyrinth, in addition Pilkokaina Palace and archaeological museum of Challapampa. Yumani is another archaeological site where there are stone steps that lead to the top of the island, where exists water source. Lunch or box-lunch during trip. Finally a return trip by motor boat from Sun Island to Copacabana. Land transfer from Copacabana (Bolivia) to Puno (Perú), a car trip of 3:00 hours, including stop at Kasani (Migrations office of Bolivia & Peru). Arrival in Puno (Peru), then transfer to hotel.
